Forgotten Hauls #5 and #6 [Part 3]

[Max Factory Collect 600 Capcom Fighting Jam; Playstation 2 Trigger Heart Exelica Enhanced SP Box]

Here is the final part of Forgotten Hauls that arrived in March that was neglected by me.

As a gamer, I often want representations of beloved characters from all-time favorite franchises. You know all about having that feeling of nostalgia fill you when you see a picture or statue of an individual that triggers a fond memory. As I’ve mentioned before, I primarily got into this very sick addiction, er hobby, because there were absolutely gorgeous pvc representations of video game characters. This addiction spilled over into anime, naturally of course, but that will be covered in an upcoming 1-year blog in the near future.

A co-worker of mine really loves the Street Fighter series as he is often caught saying, “It’s for men!” Anyways, he usually goes on a random trip during our lunch break to try and pick up some cute toys or knick knacks that he happens to stumble upon. After returning back to lunch after one of those trips, he showed me a Ryu trading figure, since he knows that I was into pvc figures. I was amazed at the quality of the Ryu trading figure. He told me he had paid $9 for it and it was from Max Factory. I had never heard of Max Factory delving into the trading figure market, but the quality for a trading figure was much better than your typical Bandai/Banpresto level of quality. I decided to research the trading figure as soon as I came home and lo and behold, my co-worker was not lying about it’s origins.

Max Factory did, indeed, create a Collect 600 Capcom Fighting Jam trading figure set some time in 2005. Ouch, 2005?!? The very nature of the pvc/resin scene is that some figures are generally harder to find if it has been released for a few years. There are always exceptions to the generalized idea as there are old figures that can be found with little to no effort involved.

I was able to find a MISB set for $49 which I immediately jumped on. I believe I bought this set at a point when I was not supposed to be spending any money because of damn taxes, but this was the only thing I bought during that time period. I ended up missing out on a truly spectacular deal during that time and would have gladly swapped this out for the other item in terms of priority. Am I unhappy with the way things played out? Not really. It takes an extreme amount in order for me to be kicking myself for something. I figure that there are always several chances to do something and it was not one of those times for me.  C’est la vie.

Ryu – in his hadoken form – graces the top portion of the box. Now, everyone who plays video games has to know or heard of who Ryu is or you clearly are living under a rock for some time. While Ryu is not as well-known as the video game king, Mario, he is nonetheless a titan within the fighting video game genre. I bought Street Fighter IV Collector’s Edition for the PS3 so that I may have the Ryu figure and playing the game filled me with a desire to want to add some more video game merchandise to the collection. In the second picture where I am holding the trading figure box up, you can see albeit blurry the video game collection in the back. There’s a stack of the coveted PS2 games, a glimmer of the stack of guides, part of my Viva Piñata’s leg, and the adorably cute, yet tiny Monster Hunter’s pig. I gave my other Pogo pig to my mom to decorate the dashboard of her car XD

So, this is one of those sets where it is completely randomized and you have no idea what figures you are getting, if you are getting a complete set or have gotten the secret figure(s). I opened up my case from the bottom and got no repeats whatsoever. I am not sure if the cases are meant to give no repeats or not.

In the first enlarged picture, I have featured is Alex from Street Fighter III. I can’t even remember what Street Fighter that I have seen or played any more as it seems to have melded into one melting pot with no discernible differences. I have a complete set of both Ryu and Demitri in their regular and variant costumes. Demitri is from Darkstalkers, a game which I spent countless hours playing over and over again. I really love that game. The straggler trading figures were Ingrid – especially designed for the Capcom Fighting Jam – , Guy from Final Fight, Leo from Red Earth, and Pyron – who is the boss in Darkstalkers.

With the exception of Ingrid whose joints are further accentuated with the tights that she is wearing, all of the trading figures were beautiful for trading figures. In addition to some of the default, dynamic poses that the figures had to offer, they were articulated at the joints meaning that you could slightly pose all of the characters. This is shocking for I don’t know many trading figures with articulation.

Does the plastic pictured above seem familiar to you? Well, it should. This could be what I can consider as laying the groundwork for figmas in the future. You stick the rounded plastic ball into the figure’s back. Suffice to say, I was very impressed with this trading figure set. It’s a real shame that Max Factory does not do more trading figures as I would wholeheartedly support them in their endeavor.

I had this preordered since last year along with the Unlimited Codes SP box. I messed up and canceled my order and never got my Saber Lily figma. It does not seem to be all that limited to me even though it was a production of 50,000 or something. I may be wrong and have added one too many zeroes to that. Anyways, I love schmups, otherwise known as shoot-em-ups, which is a more gaming used term to describe the shooter genre. I absolutely love schmups even though I am not extremely good at them and lack the eye-hand coordination to barely escape deadly particles in repetition. I already own the exquisite ALTER Triggerheart and having the matching nendoroid that is a chibi carbon copy was a definite must for me. So, this order shipped some time in March and with it came a Triggerheard balloon. I’m guessing this is some sort of preorder bonus. I really don’t want to open up my box for the time being. I saw some very brief on-hands time with the game and it looks fun and difficult at the same time.

So, in other news, I was trying to watch some Evangelion. Yes, I’m probably one of the few people on the face of the planet that hasn’t seen Evangelion. One of the episodes that we were streaming did not stream so smoothly so all we can hear playing against the anime was very slow, warbled dialogue or audio. It was so hilarious. As we speak, I have taped down the left thumbstick of my 360 controller so that my newly made character in Oblivion is sneaking against an elevated platform within proximity of a Goblin Witch who is never gonna turn around. Yay! Talk about simultaneously leveling up and being efficient with online tasks.

@Jem-chan: Heyyy, at least you’re making the “Evangelion” effort, right? Conversely, I’m making no progress in my “Street Fighter” effort. Nada. Unless of course, it has its own anime? ^_~

I do believe Street Fighter got a short series of an anime. Well, I’ve realized that I really like Evangelion a lot and now want some Evas.

@Jem-chan: Awww, Evas. Time for some flashback action to your very-earliest Toybox comments! ^_^

@Jay: I can’t reply to your bottom comment, so I have to reply to myself. Yeah, good times. That’s definitely when I stumbled upon your blog and we totally hit it off. I’m really glad that I was in the neighborhood and decided to drop by. :]

@Jem-chan: Hehe, well, I pointed to the “flashback” as a hint-hint nudging into which “Evas” u were thinking about, lol. Like some of the ones I own perhaps?

That’s very good that your boyfriend made this purchase and it’s something both of you can share and be happy with.

@Jem-chan: Hahaha, awww, glad to ease your irritation! I do what I can. But sexually ambiguous? Actually, I haven’t thought that at all. I get a clear impression that you’re quite confident in your femininity and sexually, but happen to enjoy the hot beauty of voluptuous women too! And I knew your full-figured, if not full-lipped, yet bad-ass and kick-ass genre of women, even if I’m not familiar with all of their names… Which is *why* I figured these Asian succubi twins might fit your appeal. I mean, they’re the most voluptuous looking 3D CG-animated Asian girls I’ve seen in a while! If ever. I guess I was slightly off after all, lol… LOL, yup, “Sankaku”, an acquired taste that never fails to tease, titillate and teeter along the ecchi edge between amusement and outright disgust!… Ahh, true, I get the impression that you’re more shocking online than IRL just because TRW can be quite restrictive sometimes. As for “charming”, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s misinterpreted as “teasing” more often than not, lol. But then again, you’ve already mentioned how u find that amusing too!… A-ha! I knew you pre-ordered Yoshika. But you’re right, compared to other figures, I don’t see any blatant eroticism with her. Or maybe Kris-chan hasn’t been exposed to the seedier side of figures (cough-cough, GigaPulse, cough)… Right. There’s a big difference between finding fictional art beautiful, attractive, appealing… and wanting to marry it. Art may reflect life and life may reflect art, but there’s a line. Even if cyperpunk anime like “Ghost in the Shell” tends to question that “line”, lol… Similarly, when it comes to time and money, can’t beat anime. Quicker to access, quicker to enjoy. And downloads are pretty light on the wallet indeed.

P.S. Haha, my dear, if u thought your comment was long, just think about how long it took to construct this mega-cast! Besides, I usually enjoy a long train-ride of thought. If the company is coherent, and the conversation is colorful. As long as we don’t get lost… Ahhh, “Sio”, I knew someone would miss the note. Which is why I wrote it twice: “That’s the end of the fake captions and stolen screen captures, lol.”

@Jay: I will be replying to your response over here. It’s funny that you say that because I was never interested in Evangelion or those Kotobukiya figures. I thought they were beautiful in your post, but I was still all right at that point. Then, I saw some Evangelion and tried to participate in the Kotobukiya BS lottery and I wanted some more Evangelion love. I wanted one of the Kotobukiya gothic figures, but I wanted the limited version. I also have the upcoming Evangelion maids on preorder, but I like both color schematics. I really want are some epic looking Evas. *sigh*

Wow, 600 Capcom Fighting mini-figures? That’s a lot to collect. xP
The only trading figures that can top Max Factory’s are the ones from Volks. hehe.

They are so cool, Kizo. The gamer in me geeked out when I opened up the boxes and saw how awesome they really were. I’ve never gotten the Mitsurugi trading figures that they released. I always thought they looked nice, but I never pursued it past the admiration stage. I am seriously considering getting the Koihime Musou trading figure set, but I’d much rather prefer if Volks released a Kanu figure instead. I’m sure anything that Volks does pretty much annihilates what other companies end up doing. I will say, though, that the Medicos Queen’s Blade trading figure line is intricately detailed and well-done despite the ecchi aura. I want to buy the other set as well as the exclusives, but, alas, there is just too many things one can obtain or keep track of. for now.

@balance: It is just so cute. She looks so adorable and cheerful, ready to blast you into smithereens. She’s like the baby to the ALTER Trigger Heart Exelica. I’m just amused with how cute and adorable she is :]

Are you hunting after a Saber Lily figma or are you going to skip her now?

7 06 2009
oneandonlyjem

@duckie: Nah. You don’t need to hunt that down as it’s so easy to find that it might as well not be called “limited”. I’ve lost a lot of interest in her and I’m put off that she’s not “limited”. I know where to find her for a good price, but other real limited figures have a higher priority. So, unless I am in the mood, then she’s going to be in a queue to be purchased. I think she’s a really nice looking figma, but I am not really into figmas or revoltechs because they are small and end up sacrificing some quality. I prefer bigger scaled poseable figures or full-scaled figures.

I almost went for her but I was thinking it over and I’m really not interested in paying over $25 or so for a Figma anymore. Even though I treat my figmas very gently I’ve already had 1 small and 1 large break happen to them. A $25 Figma breaking already feels lame, I can’t imagine how mad I’d be at myself if I broke a more expensive one. I know I bought Suzaku who cost me like $40, but now I find myself scared to take him out of the box so I’m considering just selling him. Plus the GSC Saber Lily has made me forget about about my desire for that figma, I’m real glad I canceled my pre-order on her. I decided I’d hope that a nice figure of her in that outfit was going to be made and I’m glad it really happened.

@duckie: Yeah. I read more often than not people’s stories whose figmas have broken. You would think that Max Factory would make them a little bit more durable since they are jointed and people will want to play and pose them for that reason. I just prefer scaled figures or really big jointed figures. I would have bought it for that price [under $99] because the video game looks dope. Unfortunately, prices on limited imported bundles are really high, so getting a figure is much better than keychains or some other really cheap bonus items. hahaha, don’t get scared. You should keep Suzaku because Lulu needs his opposite. I haven’t even opened up any of my figmas, yet. I think I am also even more turned off to that figma because a really nice albeit craptastically priced one is being released by GSC. For that price, it better be perfect.
